Delete my account… please!

This is a rant, so you are warned.

I think it is criminal that any web site or service let you sign-up for an account without making it simple to remove your account should you ever want to stop using the web site or service.

This has bugged me for a really long time, and Box.net is just the latest service to piss me off.

Box.net is an online disk service that I have used on occasion to transfer or store files. With the Windows Live SkyDrive service offering me far more now, I no longer required an account or the 100 MB of disk space that they had been giving me. So, tonight I logged in with the sole purpose of removing my account…

Let me just say that as a user, I should never have to refer to a “Terms of Service” legal document to find out how to remove my account. That is totally ridiculous. As it turns out, I have to email their support and ask for my account to be removed. No problem, but just put it in your FAQ or on the same page where you are trying to get me to sign up for all your “professional” grade services.

Am I asking for too much here? I just don’t want to have to refer to legal documents on a web site to find out how to deal with canceling a service, or removing a user account.

ATHF… today, the ‘A’ is for awesome

070131_boston_hlarg_3p_hlarge

While waiting to be seated in a restaurant today at lunch, I noticed there was a TV over the bar area that was on Fox News. They were showing aerial photos of the airport in Boston, and text on the screen made mention of a bomb scare.

Several hours later, a co-worker filled me in with what actually happened…

From the Associated Press:
BOSTON - Several illuminated electronic devices planted at bridges and other spots in Boston threw a scare into the city Wednesday in what turned out to be a publicity campaign for a late-night cable cartoon. Most if not all of the devices depict a character giving the finger.

Turner Broadcasting, a division of Time Warner Inc. and parent of Cartoon Network, later said the devices were part of a promotion for the TV show “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” a surreal series about a talking milkshake, a box of fries and a meatball.

Being a fan of Aqua Teen, and also being someone who just plain loves seeing hilarious stories like this, I can’t help but say “HAHAAHAHAAHAAHA!”

To quote Ignignokt… “Let’s leave this primitive rock because there’s nothing but cavemen here.”

"First Goatse" at Apple Store

Yesterday at the Apple Store in SF, lots of people got to see the infamous “goatse” photo for the very first time!

This nearly brings a tear to my eye, and oh how I wish I could have been there to see it.

There are lots of photos and details on the Laughing Squid blog.
